Balcony solar systems and photovoltaic installations are experiencing strong growth, which we witness every day through our freight forwarding customer, Solago, in Hilden near Düsseldorf. Founded as a start-up in 2022, the company has achieved remarkable success with its compact photovoltaic systems, which enable private households to generate solar energy easily and flexibly. What began with only a few shipments has developed into rapidly growing transport volumes. “This is particularly rewarding for us because sustainability plays an important role at Noerpel. By transporting solar modules and balcony power systems, we are quite literally delivering climate protection that people can see and use,' says Julian Schulz, sales representative in Hilden. 

 

 

Knowing What Matters 

We have supported Solago from the very beginning with our logistics expertise. Handling and transporting these products presents a number of challenges. The glass modules are highly fragile, the systems cannot be stacked, and shipments may include hazardous goods due to battery storage units. Additionally, the dimensions of the solar modules and compact power systems often necessitate larger load carriers than standard Euro pallets. Installation rails, which are often supplied with the modules, can be between three and six metres long. 'By working closely with our customer, we developed the optimal solution for all these requirements,' explains Julian Schulz. 'We use larger pallets to protect the outer edges of the products and have invested in special racks for the safe transport of long mounting rails.' The result is straightforward handling and an exceptionally low damage rate, despite continuously increasing shipment volumes.

 

 

Solar energy for private households 

We load the goods directly at Solago’s warehouse in Hilden, where several articulated lorries are on site every day. We organise onward transport at our nearby cross-docking facility the very same day. Our main customers are private households in Germany and Austria. This makes the delivery process particularly demanding, as vehicles equipped with tail lifts are required and deliveries must be announced in advance and scheduled for a specific time slot.
