It is a proud milestone in the company’s history: on 1 April, the Noerpel Group will celebrate its 140th anniversary.
The company's story began in 1881, when merchant Carl Ernst Noerpel founded the transport company C.E. Noerpel in his hometown of Friedrichshafen on Lake Constance. This marked the beginning of what has grown into a family-owned business employing around 2,800 people today.
A high-performing group of companies.
From a regional forwarding business in 1881, the Noerpel Group has grown to become an internationally active transport and logistics service provider, continuously expanding its capabilities and market presence. While the company’s early activities focused on the storage and transportation of grain, today an extensive range of goods are stored, picked, handled, and distributed through the group’s modern warehousing and transhipment facilities.
Comprehensive service portfolio
As one of Germany’s leading transport and logistics companies, the Noerpel Group handles around 5.2 million consignments every year. Customers from industry and trade benefit from bespoke logistics services and a wide range of packaging solutions. The portfolio is complemented by flexible personnel services provided by professionally qualified employees.
“We look back with pride on our long history as a family-owned company and are delighted that locations such as Passau have been part of our group for more than a century. At the same time, our focus is clearly on the future. We are expanding our European transport networks, investing in digitalisation and process automation, and making Corporate Social Responsibility and sustainability a key part of our agenda,” says Stefan Noerpel-Schneider, the Noerpel Group’s managing partner.
Agile and dynamic across generations
The company has been family-run since its inception. The collaboration of several generations has successfully combined decades of experience with fresh, entrepreneurial ideas, creating a strong, enduring foundation for growth. This unique blend continues to shape the Noerpel Group, making it an agile and dynamic organisation. In 1937, the company's founder, Carl Ernst Noerpel, handed over management to his son, Egon. In 1965, he was succeeded by his nephew, Hartmut Noerpel-Schneider, who appointed his son, Stefan, to the joint management team in 1998. Stefan Noerpel-Schneider has now led the company for almost twenty years. Members of the fifth generation have also joined the business: for around three years, Stefan's children, Judith and Lucas Noerpel-Schneider, have been strengthening the management team of the Noerpel Group.
