The Noerpel Group is further expanding its presence in southern Germany. With retroactive effect from 1 January 2025, the Ulm-based logistics provider acquired Georg Graßl GmbH, a freight forwarding company headquartered in Plattling, Lower Bavaria, between Regensburg and Passau. The agreements were signed on 28 January 2025. Through this acquisition, Noerpel has strengthened its position in the Bavarian market and enhanced its capabilities in the groupage freight segment.
Founded in Deggendorf in 1932, Graßl has been based in Plattling since 1987 and has been managed by Philipp Graßl, the third generation of the family, since 2016. The company employs around 100 people and provides domestic and international groupage, consolidated freight and full-load transport services, complemented by value-added services such as customs management. Its operations include a 2,400-square-metre transhipment terminal and a fleet of 25 company-owned trucks.
Developing the Plattling Site Together
Graßl has been a member of the CargoLine network for over three decades. 'We have enjoyed a close and trusted working relationship with Graßl for many years,' says Lucas Noerpel-Schneider, Member of the Executive Board of the Noerpel Group. 'We know each other well and share the same values and goals as family-owned businesses. Both companies take responsibility for society and the environment, and are guided by principles such as respect, trust, and reliability.”
Building on this shared foundation, the partners intend to continue developing the Plattling location. 'We see significant growth opportunities, particularly in pan-European transport services and the full-load business,' adds Lucas Noerpel-Schneider. ‘In the longer term, we also plan to expand our contract logistics activities at the site.’
Growth with continuity
While pursuing growth, the Noerpel Group is committed to continuity. Philipp Graßl will remain as Managing Director and Branch Manager, continuing to oversee operations in Plattling. All jobs will be retained, and customers and employees will continue to work with their established contacts. The well-known company name will also remain unchanged.
‘With the Noerpel Group, we know Graßl is in very good hands,’ says Philipp Graßl. 'As family-run businesses, we share a similar corporate culture. I am convinced that under the umbrella of the Noerpel Group, we have found an excellent environment for future development. At the same time, our customers will benefit from Noerpel’s extensive network of 28 locations, comprehensive service portfolio, and strong commitment to sustainability and innovation.”
Positive outlook for the future:
Lucas Noerpel-Schneider is also optimistic about the future: 'We are very much looking forward to working together and would like to extend a warm welcome to all our new colleagues. Together, we will continue to develop the Plattling site successfully.'
