Noerpel celebrates opening of new terminal in Odelzhausen

Ulm/Odelzhausen, 22 July 2022

·   A combined freight forwarding and logistics facility has officially opened.
·   Strategic location on the A8 motorway between Munich and Augsburg.
·   The building was constructed to DGNB Gold certification standards.

The Noerpel Group officially inaugurated its new integrated freight forwarding and logistics terminal in Odelzhausen today. The town is located around 30 kilometres north-west of Munich and 30 kilometres south-east of Augsburg. Around 70 guests, including political representatives, customers, and business partners, attended the opening ceremony.

Stefan Noerpel-Schneider, Managing Partner of the Noerpel Group, formally opened the new facility together with Helmut Zech, Deputy District Administrator of Dachau District. “I am delighted that we can celebrate this milestone together,” said Stefan Noerpel-Schneider. 'Thanks to the tremendous support from everyone involved, and above all the outstanding commitment of our local teams, we are now ideally positioned in Odelzhausen to expand our integrated freight forwarding and logistics services.'

In his address, Mr Noerpel-Schneider emphasised the close collaboration with the local municipality and expressed his gratitude to the political stakeholders and BREMER, the general contractor who delivered the project on schedule.

During a site tour, guests had the opportunity to explore the new combined freight forwarding and logistics facility. The recently completed logistics centre provides approximately 40,000 pallet spaces across 25,000 square metres, including dedicated hazardous goods areas. There are more than 25 loading bays available for efficient vehicle loading and unloading.

Sustainable property development

Alongside operational efficiency, sustainability was central to the development of the new facility. The building was constructed in line with the Gold standard of the German Sustainable Building Council (DGNB).

Noerpel plans to install a photovoltaic system on the roof of the logistics centre as part of its sustainability features. This will generate green electricity to power the entire property, including the IT infrastructure, LED lighting, and charging stations for forklifts.

Freight Forwarding and Logistics from a Single Source

The new logistics centre complements the 12,000-square-metre freight forwarding and transhipment terminal which began operating in Odelzhausen in 2019.

'Odelzhausen enables us to combine freight forwarding and logistics activities in one location, delivering comprehensive, full-service solutions from a single source,' explains Stefan Noerpel-Schneider. 'From the warehouse, we can feed groupage shipments, part loads and full truckloads directly into our national and European transport network.'

An increasing number of existing and new customers are already reaping the benefits of the site's strategic location. Companies from sectors including mechanical engineering, consumer goods and electronics have set up operations at the facility. 'We still have some capacity available,' adds Stefan Noerpel-Schneider. ‘Interested businesses are welcome to contact our local logistics and freight forwarding teams.’

Around 250 employees from the freight forwarding and logistics divisions are currently supporting customer projects at the Odelzhausen site. The facility offers modern workplaces and spacious communal areas, providing an attractive working environment. 'With Odelzhausen, we have created a new operational hub for the Noerpel Group,' concludes Stefan Noerpel-Schneider. ‘This strong location will enable us to continue moving our customers’ businesses forward for many years to come.’
