Ulm/Odelzhausen, 9 January 2020
The Noerpel Group has successfully launched operations at its new Odelzhausen site.
• A new site has been opened northwest of Munich
• The new freight forwarding terminal offers 12,000 square metres of space
• The Munich branch of Ascherl-Noerpel has relocated
The Noerpel Group officially commenced operations at its new Odelzhausen location on 2 January 2020. Strategically located directly on the A8 motorway between Munich and Augsburg in the Dachau district, the new facility was built in just eight months. In December 2019, the Group relocated its subsidiary Ascherl-Noerpel from central Munich to the modern freight forwarding terminal in Odelzhausen, creating the capacity required for future growth.
The 12,000-square-metre freight forwarding facility was developed in close partnership with the logistics real estate developer Panattoni Europe and the construction company Goldbeck Süd. The ceremonial foundation stone was laid in May 2019 on the 44,000-square-metre site. All construction work, including the installation of the IT infrastructure, was completed on schedule by the end of the year.
On 23 December 2019, Ascherl-Noerpel GmbH relocated from Munich-Moosach to Odelzhausen. Around 220 employees now serve renowned customers from the automotive, mechanical engineering, and consumer goods sectors at the new site. 'Successfully completing such an ambitious construction project, including the relocation of an entire branch, on schedule is a source of great pride for us,' said Stefan Noerpel-Schneider, managing partner of the Noerpel Group. 'I would like to extend my sincere thanks to everyone involved: the local municipality and construction partners for their support, our customers for their trust, and above all our employees for their outstanding commitment.'
Room for growth
The new Odelzhausen facility features 8,800 square metres of transshipment space, 100 loading bays, and modern office facilities. Ascherl-Noerpel primarily provides road transport solutions for its customers within Germany and across Europe. The company's service portfolio also includes sea freight, air freight and rail transport services.
“The new site and its modern infrastructure provide the ideal conditions for continued growth alongside our customers,” said Stefan Noerpel-Schneider. 'We see strong demand in the region for sophisticated international transport and logistics solutions.' Employees at Ascherl-Noerpel in Odelzhausen already handle over 800 tonnes of goods per day, and this figure is continuing to rise.
The former Munich location had reached full capacity and could not be expanded further due to its inner-city setting. Therefore, relocating the operation was an essential step. In December, Noerpel transported warehouse and office equipment, operational resources, and technical infrastructure from Munich to Odelzhausen in around 70 truckloads.
'We are fully operational,' said branch manager Helmut Kirschner. 'We have decided not to hold an official opening ceremony at this stage. Instead, we are planning an informal open day in spring, when we will invite interested visitors to take a look behind the scenes. For now, our focus is on getting started for our customers.”
