  • Completion planned by the end of 2022

Noerpel has operated a logistics centre with around 46,000 square metres of space in Giengen for several years, located around 30 kilometres north-east of Ulm. By the end of 2022, this capacity will be expanded with an additional 45,000-square-metre facility, effectively doubling the company’s logistics space at the site.

The new facility will provide more than 39,000 square metres of warehouse and logistics space, around 5,000 square metres of mezzanine area, and over 1,500 square metres of office space, providing modern logistics capacity for future growth. It is being built on a 75,000-square-metre site with direct access to the A7 motorway.

“We are delighted that construction is now moving ahead in full and would like to thank everyone involved for their excellent cooperation,” says Berthold Bernecker, Noerpel Group’s Managing Director of Logistics. “With the new terminal, we are doubling our available logistics space in Giengen. Demand for sophisticated logistics services in the region remains very high.

Some of the new capacity has already been allocated to existing customers, including consumer goods companies that will be expanding their logistics projects with Noerpel. The new terminal is expected to open at the start of 2023, creating around 80 new jobs initially. In the longer term, the company expects up to 125 people to be based at the site.

Sustainable development

The project continues to prioritise sustainability. The new property is being developed in accordance with the Gold standard of the German Sustainable Building Council (DGNB). Planned features include a green roof and EV charging stations to support alternative drive systems. A multi-storey car park dedicated to employees will also be constructed on site.

Dieter Henle, Mayor of Giengen an der Brenz, welcomed the investment in the GIP A7 business park: 'The Noerpel Group has been one of Giengen’s strong and reliable employers for many years. As a logistics specialist, the company plays an important role in the local economy and in supporting critical infrastructure. We are therefore pleased that Noerpel is further expanding its commitment to our city.”

For this project, Noerpel is collaborating with the real estate developer Panattoni Germany. “With this new development in Giengen, we are continuing our strong and trusted partnership with the Noerpel Group. This is already the fifth project we have realised together,” says Fred-Markus Bohne, Panattoni Germany’s Managing Partner.

Focused on customer demand

The Noerpel Group is currently expanding its logistics capacity across several locations. Following the opening of its logistics centre in Heidenheim in 2021 and the commencement of operations at the new terminal in Odelzhausen in 2022, another logistics facility in Singen is scheduled to open in summer 2023. Additional logistics projects in Giengen are set to begin at the end of 2022.

“These new developments ensure that we are well placed to meet our customers’ needs,” says Berthold Bernecker. 'Given the current disruptions in global markets, logistics space in southern Germany is in high demand. Increased buffer stocks held by manufacturing companies and the continuing trend of outsourcing logistics operations to specialist providers are driving strong demand for our services. Our additional capacity combines modern warehousing with high-value logistics solutions tailored to customer needs.”
