Noerpel Heidenheim joins the IDS network

  •  General cargo network strengthens coverage in eastern Württemberg.
  • Additional services and benefits for Noerpel customers.

With effect from 1 January 2022, the Noerpel Group’s Heidenheim location will become part of the IDS network. As a new partner in Germany's leading general cargo cooperation, the site will take over some of the shipment handling that was previously managed by the Ulm branch of Noerpel and one of the IDS locations in Stuttgart. This will create additional capacity for future growth, providing Noerpel customers with shorter transport routes and standardised processes.

Within the IDS network, the Heidenheim branch will be responsible for eastern Württemberg, including the Göppingen, Schwäbisch Gmünd and Geislingen regions, as well as the area north of Ulm up to Heidenheim. This region is home to numerous industrial companies, resulting in significant transport volumes. 'With Heidenheim joining the IDS network, we will be able to distribute the high shipment volumes in this economically strong region more efficiently,' says Michael Dangel, Branch Manager of Noerpel Heidenheim. 'We expect to handle between 400 and 500 inbound shipments per day as an IDS partner.'

Transferring shipment volumes to Heidenheim will relieve pressure on the IDS locations in Ulm and Stuttgart, creating opportunities for further growth. 'Our Ulm location is operating at full capacity as shipment volumes have increased significantly in recent months due to the effects of economic recovery,' says Frank Irslinger, Managing Director and COO of the Noerpel Group. 'By freeing up capacity, we can continue to expand customer projects and growth initiatives at the site.'

Benefits for customers

Ten of the Noerpel Group’s 17 locations will operate as partner companies within the IDS network, including Heidenheim. This will reduce final-mile transport distances and improve efficiency for customers. Customers will also benefit from the consolidation of inbound and outbound general cargo shipments, standardised operational processes, and integrated IDS IT services, including real-time shipment tracking and status updates.

The Noerpel Group runs modern forwarding and logistics facilities in Heidenheim, employing around 200 people. The close integration of forwarding and logistics operations means customers can benefit from fully coordinated, end-to-end logistics services from a single source. Customers primarily come from the consumer goods, automotive, paper production and mechanical engineering sectors.
