Noerpel is building a logistics terminal covering over 25,000 square metres in Heidenheim

Ulm/Heidenheim, 4 March 2020

Noerpel is building a 25,000-square-metre logistics terminal in Heidenheim.

  • The expansion of the Noerpel logistics park in Heidenheim/Herbrechtingen
  • The existing freight forwarding site in Heidenheim will remain in operation.
  • Completion is scheduled for the end of 2020.

The Noerpel Group is constructing a new logistics centre on a plot of land measuring just under 50,000 square metres in Heidenheim, Baden-Württemberg. The property is being built in the immediate vicinity of the existing freight forwarding branch. The new terminal will expand the Noerpel logistics park in Giengen/Herbrechtingen, located around ten kilometres away, providing scope for further regional growth.

From April, a neighbouring plot to the Noerpel freight forwarding facility in Heidenheim will be developed to accommodate just under 23,000 square metres of logistics space. There will also be 1,000 square metres of office and staff facilities, as well as around 1,800 square metres of mezzanine space. 'This new building is necessary because we have expanded our customer base at our 46,000-square-metre logistics park in Herbrechtingen,' says Berthold Bernecker, the Noerpel Group's Managing Director. Like the Herbrechtingen facility, the new property will feature a crane runway for transporting heavy goods. Two sections of the hall will also feature WGK-certified membrane in the floor, and the new building will be 12.5 metres taller than the Herbrechtingen facility. To promote sustainability, the aim is to achieve DGNB Gold status during construction, and a charging station for electric vehicles will be installed in the outdoor area.

Strengthening the region and the north-south network

Initially, the new facility will be occupied by existing customers from regional industries. These include companies from the consumer goods, automotive, paper manufacturing, and mechanical engineering sectors. The site has already attracted interest from potential new customers. Its convenient location and direct access to the A7 motorway provide ideal conditions for logistics operations.

'This development is an important project for us because operating three facilities in the area will allow us to strengthen our local network further and increase our presence in the region, as well as along our north-south corridor,' says Stefan Noerpel-Schneider, shareholder and managing director of the Noerpel Group. 'In addition, we expect to create around 50 new jobs in the region.'

This is the third project that Noerpel has collaborated on with Panattoni. At the end of 2019, the developer handed over a logistics facility in Odelzhausen, Bavaria, to Noerpel. Previously, in 2017, Panattoni completed a 43,000 m² logistics property in Elsdorf, Lower Saxony, for the logistics company in just six months. Construction in Heidenheim is also expected to progress rapidly. Groundworks will begin in April, with commissioning planned for the end of 2020.
