The Noerpel Group has opened a new logistics terminal in Giengen

•    A new logistics facility offering 45,000 square metres of space
•    Operations will commence at the turn of the year
•    Noerpel will become the largest logistics space provider in the Heidenheim region
•    Noerpel has donated to the charity Sternenkässle

Just eight months after breaking ground, the Noerpel Group officially inaugurated its new logistics centre in Giengen an der Brenz, around 30 kilometres northeast of Ulm. Judith Noerpel-Schneider opened the 45,000-square-metre facility together with Mayor Dieter Henle. This latest investment sees Noerpel expand its logistics footprint in the Heidenheim region to approximately 116,000 square metres, establishing the company as the largest provider of logistics space in the area.

The new terminal is located directly at the Giengen interchange on the A7 motorway. The property comprises 39,000 square metres of warehouse and logistics space, 5,000 square metres of mezzanine area, and over 1,500 square metres of office space. The facility offers capacity for over 60,000 pallet locations, while the mezzanine level provides block storage with a load-bearing capacity of 1.5 tonnes per square metre. With WHG-compliant protective flooring and a firewater retention system, the site is suitable for storing a wide range of goods.

The new facility brings the total number of Noerpel Group logistics locations in the Heidenheim region to three, totalling 116,000 square metres. Two logistics terminals in Giengen provide around 45,000 square metres of usable space each, complemented by a 25,000-square-metre logistics centre in Heidenheim. 'Well-equipped warehouse and logistics space continues to be in high demand as manufacturers and retailers increase their inventory levels,' explains Berthold Bernecker, the Noerpel Group's Managing Director of Logistics. ‘With our capacity expansion, we are meeting this demand, strengthening regional supply chain infrastructure, and helping to reduce dependence on international supply networks.’

Operations begin at Giengen II

The Noerpel Group will start operating at its second logistics terminal in Giengen at the beginning of the year. In the coming weeks, the first customer projects will move into the facility, including both existing customers expanding their cooperation with Noerpel and new clients. Goods to be stored at the site will include products from the medical technology, toys, and pet food sectors.

The building was developed in accordance with the Gold certification standard of the German Sustainable Building Council (DGNB). A green roof is to be installed, preparations are underway for electric vehicle charging infrastructure, and a dedicated parking structure for employees is also planned. Initially, around 80 new jobs will be created, and the workforce is expected to grow to more than 120 employees in the future.

Logistics as an Economic Driver

Around 100 guests, including Giengen Mayor Dieter Henle, attended the opening ceremony. In his speech, he emphasised the importance of logistics for the regional economy and the close relationship between the city and the Noerpel Group.

'I am delighted that, following such a short construction period, the Noerpel Group can now offer customised logistics services to regional industrial companies from this exceptional facility,' said Dieter Henle. 'Our cooperation has always been excellent, and it is particularly pleasing to see Noerpel establishing such a strong presence in the Giengen Industrial Park A7.'

Together with Mayor Henle, Judith Noerpel-Schneider, a member of the Noerpel Group's executive management board, officially opened the logistics facility. 'We are proud and delighted to now fully launch operations at our second site in Giengen,' she said. 'My sincere thanks go to everyone who contributed to this success, including our employees, the city administration, the project developers and the construction partners.'

In 2022 alone, the Noerpel Group created more than 83,000 square metres of additional logistics space: 25,000 square metres in Odelzhausen, 13,500 square metres in Singen, and 45,000 square metres in Giengen an der Brenz.

‘With our continuous expansion of logistics space and our integrated freight forwarding and logistics solutions, we are ideally positioned to meet the requirements of our customers,’ added Judith Noerpel-Schneider.

Supporting the Sternenkässle Initiative

To celebrate the opening of its new logistics centre, the Noerpel Group has donated €5,000 to the charitable Sternenkässle initiative. This contribution highlights the company’s dedication to local communities and regional social projects.

Every year, the City of Giengen organises the Sternenkässle fundraising campaign in the run-up to Christmas. Local residents vote in advance on which social projects should benefit from the funds raised. The success of the initiative is reflected in the results of the 2021 campaign, which generated donations totalling €27,884.81.
