- The new facility will replace the existing terminal.
- 10,000 sqm freight terminal
- Sustainability features include a photovoltaic system, an energy-efficient design, and EV charging infrastructure.
- Scheduled for completion by the end of 2022
The Noerpel Group is constructing a new 10,000-square-metre freight forwarding terminal in Villingen-Schwenningen. The company plans to move to the new facility at the end of 2022 or the beginning of 2023. Sustainability and energy efficiency are key elements of the development.
Construction is currently underway on a 42,000-square-metre site in Villingen-Schwenningen, Baden-Württemberg, located approximately 600 metres from the company's current premises. The modern terminal will provide over 7,300 square metres of transhipment space and 82 loading bays, as well as around 2,100 square metres of office and administrative space.
“The building's exterior will be completed by late summer, with construction work scheduled to finish by the end of the year,” says Darko Ilic, Branch Manager of Noerpel Villingen-Schwenningen. Around 100 employees will move from the current site to the new facility in early 2023.
Nearly a decade of operations on site
The Noerpel Group has been operating a freight forwarding facility in Villingen-Schwenningen since 2013. Shipment volumes have grown steadily over the years, and the existing terminal has now reached capacity.
“At our Villingen-Schwenningen location, we manage complex supply chains for customers in industries such as electronics, automotive, and mechanical engineering,” explains Darko Ilic. 'We supply manufacturers with raw materials and ensure the distribution of finished products. Reliable national and international transport services require the right infrastructure and capacity. The new facility provides exactly those conditions.”
Another advantage of the new development is the significant increase in traffic and parking space available on Noerpel’s own premises. There will be sufficient space for internal equipment in future, which will help to reduce the long-term impact on public roads and surrounding infrastructure.
Built with sustainability in mind
As with Noerpel’s other current construction projects in Baden-Württemberg, including the logistics centres in Singen and Giengen, the development in Villingen-Schwenningen is centred around energy efficiency and sustainability. The terminal is being built to the BEG 40 efficiency standard. At this level, the building requires only around 40 per cent of the energy consumed by a comparable reference building, reducing energy demand by approximately 60 per cent compared with a conventionally constructed facility.
A photovoltaic system installed on the roof will generate much of the on-site electricity required. The facility will also feature an energy-efficient air-to-water heat pump and recyclable metal cassette elements will be used for the hall façade. Charging stations for electric vehicles are being installed, and the site is being prepared for future charging infrastructure for electric trucks.
"We consistently integrate sustainable features into all of our new-build projects and invest specifically in these technologies," says Judith Noerpel-Schneider, Member of the Executive Management Board of the Noerpel Group. 'With this modern facility in Villingen-Schwenningen, we are creating ideal conditions for our customers' projects, while also providing an excellent environment for our employees and the local community.'
