Industry expertise drives growth: The Noerpel Group is expanding its activities in building materials logistics. Since July 2026, the company has provided transport and logistics services for the construction chemicals manufacturer Saint-Gobain Weber. Based in Ulm, the logistics provider oversees warehousing, logistics and distribution operations throughout southern Germany.
Logistics solutions for the building materials sector are highly complex. Construction chemical products require the highest safety standards, and many goods are heavy or bulky, making them difficult to package and load. Distribution also presents significant challenges: reliable supply to construction sites requires precise delivery windows, and delivery vehicles often require tail lifts or truck-mounted forklifts.
For the Noerpel Group, however, these industry-specific requirements are part of everyday business. The company has many years of experience supporting a wide range of customers in the chemicals and building materials sectors. “This expertise has made us a trusted specialist for the building materials industry,” says Lucas Noerpel-Schneider. ‘We look forward to supporting Saint-Gobain Weber with our experience and delivering the customised logistics concept we have developed together.’
Convincing location concept
The operational hub for the new customer project is located at Noerpel’s headquarters in Ulm. New shipments from Weber arrive daily and are integrated into the warehouse network. Around 200 different products are stored on site, including tile adhesives, floor levelling compounds, and waterproofing solutions. Many of these products are classified as hazardous or water-polluting substances. “Approximately 2,000 pallets are stored in a specially secured hazardous goods area located directly beneath our cross-dock facility,” explains Lucas Noerpel-Schneider. “From there, the goods are transported via a pallet conveyor system straight to the handling area above for further processing.”
This warehouse concept is key to achieving efficient processes, low damage rates and late order cut-off times — all of which are important to customers. With this solution, Noerpel also fulfills Weber’s desire to reduce emissions in the supply chain, as the goods are immediately available, eliminating the need for advance procurement. At the same time, Noerpel reduces CO₂ emissions by minimising delivery distances and avoiding empty mileage wherever possible.
Managing a Demanding Product Mix
For the Noerpel team, the main challenge in order picking and loading is the nature of the products themselves. Pallets must accommodate a wide variety of goods, including bags, buckets, and smaller items, while ensuring they are stowed safely and securely. Weight distribution is particularly important: a single bag of building materials can weigh 25 kilograms, yet the packaging is relatively fragile. To protect products from sub-zero temperatures, Noerpel applies additional thermal packaging when required.
Based in Ulm, Noerpel handles distribution throughout large parts of southern Germany and neighbouring regions of Austria. Recipients include construction sites, tradespeople, DIY stores and specialist retailers. Deliveries to construction sites and DIY stores in particular are generally carried out on a just-in-time basis.
"Drawing on our industry experience and in-depth product expertise, we have developed a logistics concept that is precisely aligned with the customer’s requirements, creating a partnership built on trust from the outset," says Lucas Noerpel-Schneider. “Together with Saint-Gobain Weber, we look forward to pursuing further projects and strengthening this successful partnership in the future.”
