Noerpel builds new logistics facility between Augsburg and Munich

Ulm, 15 July 2021

  • A 25,000 sqm logistics terminal is under construction.
  • Expansion of the forwarding site in Odelzhausen, opened in 2019
  • Developed in line with sustainable building standards

The Noerpel Group is building a state-of-the-art logistics terminal in Odelzhausen, which is located approximately 30 kilometres north-west of Munich and 30 kilometres south-east of Augsburg. The new facility is being developed directly adjacent to the forwarding location that Noerpel opened in 2019. Designed in accordance with modern sustainability standards, the terminal is scheduled for completion in spring 2022.

The logistics centre is under construction on a 42,000 sqm site in Odelzhausen, a municipality in the district of Dachau in Upper Bavaria. Over the coming months, around 25,000 sqm of modern warehouse and office space will be created. The facility, developed jointly by Noerpel and the construction company Bremer, will feature 25 loading bays, an internal height of 12.5 metres, and capacity for around 40,000 pallets. This provides an ideal foundation for comprehensive contract logistics and value-added services.

Designed to meet the requirements of the DGNB Gold Standard, the building will include a rooftop photovoltaic system. This solar installation will supply green electricity for operations across the site, including IT systems, LED lighting, and forklift charging infrastructure.

Logistics hub between Munich and Stuttgart

Preparatory work on the site is already underway, with construction scheduled to begin in mid-July. "With this new facility, we are significantly expanding our logistics capabilities in the Munich region while broadening the service portfolio at our Odelzhausen location," says Berthold Bernecker, Noerpel's Managing Director. 'Customers will benefit from valuable synergies, as groupage shipments, part loads and full truckloads can be connected directly to our Europe-wide transport network from the neighbouring forwarding terminal.'

The location offers excellent transport links. Located in the Odelzhausen business park, the new logistics terminal provides direct access to the A8 motorway, which is one of the main transport routes connecting Munich and Stuttgart.

Some of the available space has already been reserved by existing and new customers, who are expected to move in from March 2022. These include manufacturers of garden equipment and cinema technology, as well as mechanical engineering and consumer goods and electronics companies.

"This facility enables us to support a wide variety of customer requirements and provide industry-specific logistics solutions," says Berthold Bernecker. 'To support this growth, we are actively recruiting motivated employees for the site. We expect the new logistics location in Odelzhausen to create between 50 and 100 new jobs.”

The new building will offer spacious, bright and modern communal areas for employees. In addition to public express bus connections from Pasing and Dasing to Odelzhausen, Noerpel will provide a dedicated shuttle service between Moosach railway station and the logistics centre several times a day. Employees will also have access to an e-bike leasing programme to support sustainable commuting and personal wellbeing.
