Our
Measures

What we do

Because sustainability is crucial to us, we promote it with targeted measures. Building on the three sustainability pillars of economy, ecology and social responsibility, we have defined central fields of action within which we implement both larger and smaller measures.

In this regard, we pursue a two-pronged approach to boost sustainability: to achieve rapid success, we focus on factors that are effective and easy to control; alongside this approach, we also develop long-term measures in order to meet ambitious targets.

The individual steps are coordinated by our Task Force, which comprises a team drawn from HR Development, Legal Services, Purchasing, Facilities Management, Fleet as well as Quality and Sustainability Management.

Transport and fleet management

In order to save resources and reduce harmful emissions, we optimise our transport routes using IT-assisted tools. We are able to state the carbon footprint of our journeys and provide information on emissions per consignment. Alternative drive systems are, of course, essential when it comes to sustainably reducing emissions. We are working to switch our fleet over to new drive technologies, e.g. electric and hydrogen vehicles, on a long-term basis and in a cost-effective manner.

Sustainable properties and efficient energy systems

We are optimising the energy systems of our buildings on a long-term basis, the aim being to achieve net-zero in construction and use. Our efforts concentrate on saving energy and reducing emissions, as well as on recycling and waste avoidance. Here are just a few examples of our various measures: we are installing solar panels on our roofs, using green electricity, and retrofitting energy-saving battery technologies on our forklift trucks.

Supporting our employees

We accept our responsibility for our employees. That is why we invest in training and professional development, offer e-learning programmes, and nurture young talents as well as specialists/executives. We also promote the health of our employees, e.g. through regular sporting events, attractive leasing schemes for bikes and e-bikes, and comprehensive occupational health and safety management.

Doing our bit for society

We are grateful for so much and want to give something back to society. We have therefore been working for the common good for decades. For example, we support social organisations such as charities, hospices, and food banks. We also sponsor cultural and sporting projects, donate to a water project in Niger and give a home to two bee colonies at our headquarters. We are a member of various project groups that proactively champion climate initiatives and sustainable research projects.
